WETASKIWIN, ALBERTA

The city of Wetaskiwin is located approximately 35 minutes south of Edmonton’s southern edge, on the east side of the County of Wetaskiwin along Highway 13.

Originally a stagecoach stop between Calgary and Edmonton, Wetaskiwin is built on the coast of an ancient seabed that used to cover Alberta, evident in the sandy, silty soil found around the city. Fishing is a popular pastime, both during the warm summer months as well as the winter ones when ice fishing is at its best. Due to the numerous natural and made-made lakes that dot the landscape around Wetaskiwin, lake sports are popular around the year, including swimming, boating, and ice skating. The nearby Peace Hills Park includes an off-leash area and frisbee disc golf course, as well as picnic areas, a playground, and hiking trails.

Within the Greater Edmonton Area, Wetaskiwin is perhaps best known for the “Cars Cost Less in Wetaskiwin” jingle, and the famous Wetaskiwin Automile located along Highway 2 is well known throughout the region for providing great service. The downtown area features many local shops, restaurants, and cafes in beautiful historic buildings. The city provides all the services and amenities a family needs close at hand, and with Edmonton South Common shopping area a mere 30 minutes drive away, you’ll be close to all the brand name stores you could ever need.
